1869 – 1935

Andrew Fairbairn Affleck was an acomplished watercolourist, etcher and engraver who is possibly best known for his etchings of the waterways in Venice.

Affleck was originally from  Ayr. He specialised in architectural subjects but his work includes some landscapes. He moved from his home town to London but spent many months travelling extensively and living for long periods in Belgium, France and Spain. He etched many subjects in those countries and in England, Holland, Italy and also apparently in America. In 1910 Affleck settled permanently in France and some of his best work is of French buildings and their interiors. There is a large collection of Affleck’s etchings in the British Museum.
