John Campbell Mitchell RSA 1862-1922

John Campbell Mitchell settled in Corstorphine, Edinburgh after attending the Royal Scottish Academy’s Schools. He was born in Campbeltown in Argyllshire. His work was mostly in oil but he was an able although not prolific watercolourist. Typical of his work are landscapes with broad skies and skudding clouds or seascapes in hues of blue. He was elected an Associate of the Royal Scottish Academy in 1904 and a full Academician in 1918. He exhibited in the Baillie Gallery, in Liverpool and Manchester and eight times at the Royal Academy as well as principally at the RGI and RSA.
