James Garden Laing RSW

1852-1915
James Garden Laing trained and practised as an architect in Aberdeen until moving to Glasgow to take up a painting career. He was elected a member of the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolours in 1885. Watercolour was his principal medium. Influenced by nineteenth century Dutch artists, he painted fishing and port scenes and his depiction of boats in sail is often striking.
